The Ryman Auditorium posters

In December ’04 I worked at Hatch Show Print, a one-hundred twenty-five year-old letterpress poster shop in Nashville, Tennessee, and created a series of posters for a Clint Black concert at the Ryman Auditorium.

[below] What makes a Hatch poster is the delightfully imperfect printing and authentic aged materials. Many designers try to imitate it with computer help and they just can’t match the real thing.

[below] I also worked on a local musician's poster that advertised his annual Christmas concert.

[above] This is the type on the bed of the letterpress. All those letters are held in place by pieces of wood (called furniture) and tightened so nothing on the press can move. Paper is rolled over it about 200 times and then you have your posters!

[below] Again, the details are what make these posters so special.
